Mannequin is a wonderful equipment or instrument used by fashion designers, dress makers and fashion entrepreneurs.

There are different definitions given to mannequin.

Some researchers calls Mannequin a dummy used in fashion house(s).

Some researchers calls Mannequin a model used by fashion designers’, fashion entrepreneurs & dressmakers in designing or projecting their collections or designs.

We have different types and uses of mannequins....

1. Realistic mannequins

They justify their name. Realistic mannequins are designed to look like a real person. They are made of fibreglass skin to replicate the human skin making them look even more realistic. Realistic fashion mannequins are sized to average human dimensions, and their heads are covered with wigs styled to look casual or formal, depending on the way they are to be dressed up. These mannequins are mainly used in high-end or expensive stores. Both male and female versions are shaped and built accordingly, making clothes that are put on them look usable and as close to a real person as possible.

2. Headless mannequins

These offer great options for displays that are limited by the height of the ceiling. Also crafted from fibreglass, they come in various sizes, shapes, colours and poses depending on the requirement of the display. The fibreglass construction ensures durability and their neck is usually straight. Male and female headless fashion mannequins display all types of clothing efficiently because they do not offer any emotions.

3. Child mannequins Child fashion mannequins help identify ideas for parents wondering how to dress up their children on different occasions. These give a display advantage over stores that do not have them. The sub-classes are baby, child and teenager, depending on the age bracket they are to depict. Baby dummies are comparatively lower in demand to the other two. Teenager mannequins attract teens exploring fashion and are probably the most attracted to fashion products. They come in many positions. Baby mannequins also come in crawling position, and teenager mannequins can seem to be jumping or happy.

4.Flexible mannequins

Flexible fashion mannequins are in high demand. Business owners can display them in ridiculous poses that defy imagination, and that makes them a window dresser's dream. While other mannequins are made of plastic or fibreglass, flexible fashion mannequins have joints of high-density flexible foam that can be twisted or moulded in many positions. Their heads can be tilted or moved to the side to incorporate even more poses. They are the easiest to dress up as no limbs are required to be taken off.

5. Ghost Mannequins

These mannequins are also known as photography mannequins or invisible mannequins. They especially suit high-class retailers and photographers because they tend to seem invisible in photographs, only showing the clothing as it is worn. Customers can imagine the garment on themselves and that gives them a better idea of the piece. They have multiple detachable parts that make the outfit look as if it is floating. So, ghost fashion mannequins are popular with online stores and magazine displays.

8. Torso Man

Compact and easy to transport, they are most widely available. Some torso mannequins come with the option of attaching limbs when needed and can display only the top part of the clothing efficiently. They are efficient in places where there are several mannequins and individual clothing lines need to be highlighted. They are the cheapest of fashion mannequins.
